LEA-X5 FILM – Entfaltbare Riesenantenne (Satellite)

This 22 min documentary shows an impressive masterpiece of European engineering of a complex satellite subsystem developed by a consortium of more than 15 companies out of 7 European countries. The movie is about PEOPLE, who are space engineers and space enthusiasts, and what they can achieve with combined powers and brains. Once the satellite is launched in Orbit it’s there to monitor the change of climate, water in the air, geography and its impacts on biomass, ice on the pole caps up to the movement of people. These pictures let us realize the situation enabling global clear visions of making life sustainable and better on earth.

Director’s statement

For me personally, this was a great and challenging experience being able to look behind the scenes and over the shoulders of so many AMAZING space experts and to dive into a completely different world. Together with my small film team, we traveled through the hardest ‘lock downs’ during Corona to most of the consortium in Europe, documenting the progress of the “LEA-X5” Large Deployable Reflector Subsystem, co-funded by the European H2020 program (under contract to ESA). The Reflector will launch into space in approx. 6 years!

The Postproduction as originally planned was supposed to be a 5 min long Image Film. Instead, it turned out a 22 min. Docu Film shot over 3 years and edited by myself 🚀. The style is rather unusual as the cuts and pacing are fast with underlaid epic music. Normally, when I produce a documentary, I allow the scenes more to breathe…
